5G subscriptions is expected to be 810 million by the end of 2021



New DelHI: 5G technology will represent about 39 percent of India's mobile subscription by the end of 2027, estimated at about $ 500 million, a new Ericsson report said Tuesday.


The number of smartphone subscriptions is expected to be 810 million by the end of 2021 and is expected to grow at a 7 percent CAGR, reaching more than 1.2 billion by 2027 in the country, according to a travel report by Swedish communications giant Ericsson.


The average traffic per smartphone in the Indian subcontinent is the second largest in the world and is expected to grow to about 50GB per month by 2027.


"India's mobile data base has grown from 9.4 EB (exabyte) per month by 2020 to 12 EB per month by 2021 and is expected to increase more than 4 times to 49EB per month by 2027," the report said. .


According to Nitin Bansal, Head of Ericsson India and Head of Solutions Network for Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, Ericsson, 5G will serve as a national societal repetition.


"We are preparing telecommunications service providers to easily deploy 5G in the country based on our global shipping expertise, our new and competitive 5G portfolio and the 5G trials we are undertaking with Indian operators to demonstrate opportunities through 5G," Bansal said in a statement.


In the Indian subcontinent, 4G is expected to remain the leading technology by 2027, however 4G enrollment is projected to drop from 790 million by 2021 to 710 million by 2027, indicating a 2 percent annual decline.


Relying on mobile networks to stay connected and work at home has contributed to the growth of traffic with each smartphone rising to 18.4GB per month by 2021, from 16.1GB per month by 2020.

Ericsson recently conducted 5G tests with Airtel and Vi, where it showcased advanced mobile broadband case cases and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) using 5G.


Globally, there has been a 300-fold increase in mobile data traffic since 2011, the report said.
