Tesla remembers nearly 200,000 vehicles in China

Tesla remembers nearly 200,000 vehicles in China for trunk and front hood problems that put them at risk of collision, a state regulator said Friday, hours after a similar announcement was made in the United States.

The order is the latest in a long line of American self-propelled vehicles, which are very popular in China despite the company's reputation tense this year following the emergence of accidents, scandals and safety concerns.

China's State Administration for Market Regulation said damage could detect car cameras or cause the hoods to suddenly open while driving.

The initiative includes three sets of vehicles manufactured between 2015 and 2020. Elon Musk electric car company will inspect cars for free and fix problems, the regulator said in a statement.

The rear includes about 19,700 Model S cars with problems with latch and front hood and about 180,000 Model 3 cars.

In Model 3 vehicles, repeated opening and closing of the trunk may damage the rear view camera cable.

This will impair the driver's vision when reversing, and in extreme cases will increase the risk of a collision, ”said the regulator.

China's announcement came hours after U.S. officials said Tesla was repatriating nearly 500,000 vehicles to the country due to similar problems.

Tesla estimated that only 1 percent of Model 3 recovered vehicles contained a problem, and the company was unaware of the related crash or injury, according to a US safety regulator.

In June, the electric car giant recalled more than 285,000 vehicles in China over problems with its auxiliary driving system that could cause accidents.
