YouTube is reportedly exploring a new feature that allows users to enjoy content without having to rely on a data connection. YouTube's new Smart Download feature can automatically download videos when Android devices are connected to Wi-Fi. The latest smart download feature can download up to 20 recommended videos per week. It is reported to be available as a test feature for limited subscribers for a limited period of time. YouTube Music offers the same Smart Download function that downloads music automatically while connected to a Wi-Fi connection based on previous users' listening history.
Testing of the new YouTube feature on Android was first reported by 9to5Google. According to the report, the Smart Download feature can automatically download up to 20 videos each week while the device is connected to Wi-Fi. Users can access offline content under Smart Downloads by going to the Downloads page from the Library tab. As a report, a new feature test is available for European users. Gadget 360 could not verify a new feature in the YouTube application.
Users who do not have enough phone storage to download 20-week videos are reported to receive notifications. Also, the new feature is said to be running on the latest version of Android. This feature is available as a test feature for Premium subscribers until February 14th.
YouTube Music also offers a Smart Download feature for Premium members. With this, users can enjoy offline music by downloading their favorite songs and videos to their mobile devices. Once the Smart Download feature is enabled, the app will automatically download content based on the user's previous listening history when connected to Wi-Fi. Users are advised to reconnect to the Internet at least once every 30 days to monitor downloads
In a similar vein, YouTube reportedly introduces a Listener Control Feature for Premium users on Android and iOS. The new feature gives users more controls while listening to music on the platform. Allows playback, pauses, forward and even reversing videos. It is said to be available to US users right now. The Listening Control feature can be accessed by clicking on the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the YouTube video.
