The U.S. automotive safety regulator said Friday it was discussing the heating issues of some of Tesla's vehicles

The U.S. automotive safety regulator said Friday it was discussing the heating issues of some of Tesla's vehicles and automakers and was examining "possible safety issues."

Dozens of Tesla owners have complained that heat pumps failed at cold temperatures, according to Drive Tesla Canada.

The report said heat problems occurred even after Tesla early last year removed faulty sensors from the heat pumps of other vehicles 2020-2021 Model 3 and Model Y to fix the issue.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it was "aware of the matter and continues to collect data, consult with Tesla on the matter and assess safety concerns."

Tesla did not immediately respond to Reuters's request for comment.

Canada's automotive safety regulator said on Thursday it had launched an investigation into the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y automotive heating and cooling system following 16 consumer complaints about its operating in cold weather.

Transport Canada said it was concerned that a poor temperature system and air-conditioning "could affect windshield / defrosting immersion as well as the driver's appearance."
